Kathmandu�The World Food Travel Association and its local partners Two Tables, U-Turn and Social Tours hosted the Association�s first FoodTreX Regional Food Tourism Summit at Park Village Resort on 26 May 2019.
Over 100 delegates from 8 countries gathered at the resort for a full day of speeches and meetings Nepal�s potential as a destination for food-loving travelers.
Preceding the conference day, delegates enjoyed a full-day of food tour around the capital to experience authentic Nepalese cuisine, and another day of demonstrations by chefs from some of the area�s more innovative restaurants.
WFTA Executive Director Erik Wolf said, �The warmth of the Nepalese people, the delicious, authentic foods and exotic spices all bode well for Nepal�s potential as a food-lovers� destination. To realize that potential, the key stakeholders must come together with local entrepreneurs and work together to move forward. A food tourism strategy for Nepal is the logical next step.�

Similarly, Karna Shakya, Chairman KGH Group stressed the need for the government to take initiatives and promote local and authentic Nepalese cuisine.
�All major hotels in the country should have a Nepali restaurant starting 2020�, added Shakya.

Given the success of the summit, a future FoodTreX Summit in Nepal was also announced. It will be held from May 22-24, 2020.
