Kathmandu� Chaya Center located in Thamel was officially opened on the 25th of December 2018 during an event held at the complex. The company has claimed that Chaya Center is the most convenient shopping center in the country and labelled the complex as, �Thamel within Thamel�. The shopping complex was opened with a view to attract tourists and locals alike. The complex houses three multiplex theatres along with various stores, travel agencies, a banquet hall, seminar hall, reception hall and restaurants among many other establishments. Along with the various stores, the complex also houses a five star Aloft hotel which is due to be operational from March of 2019. The hotel is a branch of the Marriott group of hotels. Currently, interior work is being done in the hotel. The hotel occupies the 5th floor up to the 15th. The construction of the complex began on 2013 and is built on approximately 15 acres of land. The complex was due to open sooner but various situations delayed the opening until Tuesday. The five year construction period is said to have cost above 5 billion rupees. �Everything available in the market in Thamel will be available in Chaya Center�, claimed Prithvi Bahadur Pandey, Chairman of Nepal Investment Bank. Over 300 vehicles can be parked at a time. The company has claimed that this complex will be the busiest in the country.
