Christmas cake mixing at Shangri-la
Sadichha Shrestha, Deepa Shree Niraula, Usha Khadgi and other known figures participated in the annual Christmas cake mixing of Shangri-la Hotel Kathmandu on 26th November in Shambala Garden.
The cake mixture included almonds, raisins, cashew nuts, walnuts, prunes, sponge cake crumbles, apricots, tutti frutti, blackcurrants, dried figs, dried cherries, mixed fruit peel, pistachios, sultanas, raisins and mixed spices. All of these ingredients were combined with a variety of spirits including whisky, brandy, rum, vodka and wine, as well as orange juice and butter.
Cake mixing ceremony heralds Christmas at Soaltee Crowne Plaza
To herald the festive season of Christmas, Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Kathmandu hosted its annual cake mixing ceremony at the hotel on November 26. Soaltee Crowne Plaza invited members of InterNations in Nepal to join the traditional cake mixing event at the hotel. InterNations is a network for expats with local communities worldwide, with a presence in more than 390 cities. As the largest international community for people who live and work abroad, InterNations offers global networking opportunities, local events and expat-relevant information.
Ingredients generally include dry fruits like raisins, black currants, prunes, glazed dates, cherries, candid orange, lemon rinds and nuts like cashews, pistachios and almonds. These are mixed with large quantities of liquor, fresh juices and honey. Freshly ground spices are also added and tossed till the fruits and nuts are well coated and stored. Before the arrival of Christmas, these soaked fruits and nuts are mixed with cake batter and baked to a heavenly perfection.
Seasons Making & Baking-Yak and Yeti
Christmas is a ritual religiously followed all over the world by Christians and other religions too. Season making and baking prior the Christmas is said to be a harbinger of good tidings and happiness. Imbibing the spirit of this ritual, this year Yak & Yeti also decorated Ginger Bread House and inaugurated a wish tree. The wish tree appeared here to support the underprivileged children wishes. The hotel management asked for the wishes to the Bal-Mandir children. Any guests could take the honor to fulfill the child wish by looking at their wish in the wish tree. Wish tree indirectly served as Santa Clause gifting the children.
The ambassadors, delegates' wives, corporate and media personality graced the event. Seasons making & baking commemorates the tradition of making decorated gingerbread houses and cookies cutting which began in Germany about 200 years ago. After the publication of the renowned Brothers� Grimm fairy tale Hansel and Gretel, German bakers began creating ornamented houses made from gingerbread. These Christmas treats flourished and arrived in the United States, where decorating gingerbread houses became a favorite way of celebrating Christmas for many families.
Alike every year, Hotel Yak & Yeti is organizing Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day Brunch on 24th December and 25th December respectively.
Christmas Cake Mixing-Radisson
In order to welcome Christmas, Radisson Hotel�Kathmandu organized their annual Christmas cake mixing ceremony on November 17.
The traditional Christmas cake is an important part of Christmas celebrations. And making it is no quick and easy task as preparations begin almost a month in advance for that. The first step towards making the cake is the mixing process, formally called the cake-mixing ceremony.
The cake mixture at Radisson included��nuts, rum, vodka, caramel, cherry, dry fruits and sponge cake crumbles to name a few. �This mixture is generally soaked for a period of one month and the cake will is prepared a week before Christmas. The staff of the hotel actively participated in the mixing ceremony.
Cake mixing- Hotel Mulberry
Hotel Mulberry too organized Christmas Cake Mixing this year. The eigth floor of Mulberry
was filled with who's who including the Miss Nepal 2010 Sadichha Shrestha and Miss Nepal 2011 Malina Joshi. The beauty queens along with the Chefs prepared the mixture which included various dried fruits which soaked in varieties of liquors and was preserved for baking for Christmas.
