One of the most prominent landmarks in Kathmandu Valley is the Chimney Restaurant at Hotel Yak & Yeti. First started as the Yak & Yeti restaurant by the famous Boris Lissanevitch in the year 1954, the restaurant has been the pioneer of hospitality in Nepal since inception. As a years-old tradition, in the mid of November, the famous copper chimney is fired. The Chimney lighting also signifies the onset of winter in Kathmandu. Many honorary guests and ambassadors have graced this event with their presence in years gone by. This year the Chimney was lit by H.E. Mr. Aleksei Novikov, Ambassador of Russia to Nepal. Many notable personalities attended the event including H.E Saeed Hamdam Al Naqbi, Ambassador of UAE to Nepal, H.E Francois - Xavier Leger, Ambassador of France to Nepal and H.E Himalee Arunatilaka, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal. Seated in the quaint palatial wing of the hotel's edifice, the Chimney Restaurant was re-launched on 13 October 2018, with an all-new menu, and an ambiance with an extended outdoor terrace seating in the lush garden of Hotel Yak & Yet, retaining the old char around Chimney and giving modern comfort outside. Converted as a sustainable restaurant, The Chimney uses and promotes upcycled products and leaving minimum carbon footprints. On 15th November the spirit of Chimney was rekindled along with the lighting at Hotel Yak & Yeti. Cocktails inspired cuisine, and happy reminiscences were on the menu including all-time classics like Smoked Beckti, Chicken A la Kiev and the flaming baked Alaska. New additions to The Chimney menu includes, pork sliders, forest mushroom risotto, miso marinated catfish and many more modern comfort foods.
