Kathmandu, June 10th-The official logo for Visit Nepal 2020 has been revealed by theMinister for Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation, Mr. Rabindra Adhikari along with his team selected the design from graphic designer Udhav Rimal.
The government is aiming to bring in 2 million tourists to the country in the year 2020. This is the third such campaign with previous ones being observed in 1998 and 2011.
The proposed campaign was scheduled to be held in 2018 but due to ongoing delays in restoring the heritage sites and the roads and airport enhancements, the government has officially declared the campaign for 2020. The announcement also puts pressure on the government to upgrade and complete the Gautam Buddha Airport in Bhairahawa and the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu in time to welcome tourists by 2020.
Hoteliers however remain skeptical about the goal as they feel that welcoming 2 million tourists is an over-ambitious target. But it is largely due to the slow pace at which the government completes its tasks.
There wont be problems with the availability of rooms. The private sector is ready to accommodate 2 million tourists. However, if the tasks are completed on time, we can expect 1.5 million tourists considering the growth in early 2018, said Binayak Shah, general secretary of Hotel Association Nepal (HAN).
HAN mentioned that the country would see an addition of almost 10,000 rooms by then, 4,000 of those in the valley alone.
The first campaign in 1998 saw Nepal welcome 463,684 visitors. In 2011, the aim was to welcome around 1 million tourists but the actual number fell short as 736,215 tourists visited the country.
